Find a dentist

Today it pays to have a gleaming, bright smile. Who doesn't what to have nice, pearly whites? To keep your smile at its best, you must first find a dentist that suits you. And with all the options currently available, you can locate an excellent dentist in no time!

The American Dental Association (ADA) has made it easy for you to find a dentist. Through their website (www.ada.org), they have compiled the "ADA Member Directory." This directory is available to the general public, and lists demographic and professional details on dentists in the United States. The ADA does warn, however, that the directory should just be used as an informational source, not a referral service. To gather additional informational about certified dentists, the American Dental Association suggests contacting a local or state dental society. These telephone numbers can be found in your local directory.

A great way to find a dentist, is to consult with friends, family members, or business associates. Find out where they get their dental work done. Ask them about the dentist's fees, and about payment and insurance plans. You should also inquire about the office, and dentist in general. Is the office clean, tidy? How about the dentist? Is he friendly? Does he always wash his hands, wear his mask and gloves? These are things you will definitely want to know before making a decision.

You can never be too careful when it comes to your health. You may want to visit several doctors before you find a dentist that is perfect for you. During your visit, take the time to notice the little things that you deem important in a health care worker. Watch for respectful conversations between the dentist and his hygienists and staff. Decide whether or not you feel comfortable around your dentist. Are you relaxed enough to share your concerns if there were ever to be any problems? Remember, this will be a long-lasting relationship!
